Fly lines come in many different “ratings” and “densities” All fishing rods are rated to match a specific line rating, for example a #5/6 fly rod should be used with a #6 Fly line. Most fly lines are now “Weight forward” and some are “Double Taper” Please see our Questions and Answers section for more information on tapers. Weight forward taper is the most commonly used line today, they are easyer to cast than a double taper and they roll cast in the same way as a double taper. Some older rods are rated e.g. #5/6/7/8, this essentially makes the rod a #8.
