For saltwater fishing around the UK there is a definite boom in this branch of the sport with bass the principal target. Most of the South Coast can be accessed although time of tide and day is generally very important. Bass aren’t large and a three pounder is pretty good unless you can fish more off shore. Mackerel come in close enough at times and the more rocky coasts of Devon and Cornwall can provide Pollack to the fly. There are many charter boats available to fish with bait for various fish including, bass, cod, pollock, dog fish, pouting, whiting and a variety of reef fish. On these charter boats you will fish for Mackerel with a Mackerel rig which is a string of flies in essence, this can be fun especially for kids. Be aware of tides, always respect the sea and the water, be safe.
